Last Thursday, Josef Martinez and Leandro Gonzalez Pirez answered a variety of hard-hitting questions on Atlanta United’s Facebook page during a special live chat. Their chemistry together made for a very funny time. Here are a few highlights and takeaways.
Who is the best dancer on the team?
Josef: I think it’s Tito Villalba.
LGP: From my experience, I think it’s Josef. You have the rhythm in the blood.
What’s your favorite music to dance to?
Josef: For me, maybe Salsa, Reggaeton, and Samba.
LGP: I am from Argentina, my friend. I like Cumbia.
Which tattoo is your favorite?
Josef: I have a lot of tattoos, but I like this one on my neck. In Spanish, it says “What we do in life echoes in eternity.”
What is your favorite place to eat in Atlanta?
Josef: Mexico Lindo in Smyrna or Eclipse di Luna.
LGP: I agree with you.
What is your favorite NBA team?
Josef: I love the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James. That’s my boy.
LGP: I like the Houston Rockets this season. They’re a really good team. They’re strong.
How are your puppies doing?
Josef: She pees everywhere. She drives me crazy.
LGP: I have one that is sick right now, but they’re good.
Barcelona or Real Madrid?
Josef: Real Madrid.
LGP: No, Barcelona my friend.
Josef: Cristiano!
LGP: Lionel Messi!
UEFA Champions League Predictions?
Josef: Of course it’ll be Real Madrid.
LGP: For me, it’s Liverpool. With Mohamed Salah, it’s a really good team.
Will Atlanta United win the MLS Cup?
Josef: You got it.
LGP: We want to win the league. We try to win every game. It’s important for us, the people, and the city.
Josef, do you want to play for Real Madrid?
Josef: No, I want to play in Atlanta.

Josef: LGP broke my fingers in one training. It’s not fine right now.
LGP: It was your fault, not mine.

Josef: I’ve never been there. I will soon though.

Josef: Not me. Miguel Almiron plays really well.
LGP: Maybe Miguel or Tito is the best.
Josef: Whenever we have the opportunity, we like to play 2 vs 2.
LGP: Yeah, we’re strong in 2 vs 2.
Josef: Not Ezequiel Barco though.
LGP: No, he’s really bad.
When are you guys coming for dinner at my house?

How do you feel about VAR at the World Cup?
Josef: No. I hate VAR. Did you see the last game? I do not like that.
LGP: I do not agree with VAR. I hate it.

Do you guys miss Yamil Asad?
LGP: Yes.
What’s your favorite color?
Josef: Gray.
Josef, how old were you when you started playing soccer?
Josef: I was four. I played indoor soccer. My first position was goalkeeper.
Who is the toughest attacker you ever had to defend against?
LGP: Physically, maybe Jozy Altidore. He’s really strong.
Do you think Brad Guzan is funny?
LGP: He looks like Gru from Despicable Me.

Who is the funniest on the team?
Josef: I love Michael Parkhurst. He’s my baby. I love Miguel and Tito too. Miguel just speaks too fast.
LGP: Maybe Jeff Larentowicz. Mikey Ambrose is also really funny. Miguel and Tito too.
