Injury Report: Atlanta United vs. Sporting Kansas City

backline depth could be an issue on Wednesday.

Franco Escobar, Chris McCann, Alec Kann, and Mitch Hildebrandt are all listed as questionable for Wednesday’s match against Sporting Kansas City. Tata Martino spoke with reporters Tuesday morning to give us further insight on the injuries.

Franco Escobar: Once again, Escobar has picked up an injury after colliding with Brad Guzan. Although this one isn’t nearly as serious as the concussion that kept him out of action for four matches, the defender has officially been diagnosed with a chest injury. Martino has special(tongue-in-cheek) instructions for Escobar once he returns.

“On set pieces, we’re going to tell Franco to go waaaay up field.”

Chris McCann: The Irishman was unavailable against Chicago due to hamstring tightness. Martino said he will be further evaluated during Tuesday’s training.

Alec Kann: The usual backup keeper dealt with a small knee injury last week and was also unavailable against Chicago. He is also being further evaluated during Tuesday’s training.

Mitch Hildebrandt: Although he was expected to return to training soon, a setback is halting that for the moment. The absence of both Hildebrandt and Kann last weekend forced Atlanta to sign ATL UTD 2 keeper Paul Christensen to a four-day contract and act as the team’s second choice goalman. If they’re both unavailable again on Wednesday, expect another short-term contract to be in the works.
