MLS: Eastern Conference Knockout Round-Columbus Crew at Atlanta United FC John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Full-time - Atlanta United go on the road to a good team and get a huge three points with a 2-0 win. Great performance and result!

82’ - Atlanta United 2, Columbus Crew 0: Welcome back Tito Villalba! In his first game back from injury, he came off the bench and has finished off a beautiful counter-attack to give the Five Stripes a huge insurance goal on the road.

31’ - Atlanta United 1, Columbus Crew 0: Josef Martinez is at it again. The striker has scored his league-leading 14th goal of the season. This time it’s off an Ezequiel Barco corner kick. The cross was perfect and found Martinez at the far post for the header.

Pre-game: With the World Cup approaching, Atlanta United prepare for their last game for about 11 days. A visit to our playoff nemesis, Columbus Crew, beckons.

It’s another very tough fixture for the Five Stripes, who are still barely holding on to first-place in the Eastern conference. The Crew are 5-1-3 at home so far this season. It’ll likely be another grind for points for Tata Martino’s side and they could be asked to do it without one of their stars.

Miguel Almiron is questionable for this match after leaving Saturday’s draw with NYCFC at halftime after sustaining a shoulder injury. Whether Miggy is available or not, we’ll likely see more of the same as we saw in the Bronx. Emergency defending with sporadic attacks. Gone are the days of reckless pressing on the road. Pragmatic Tata is here and coming for all of your difficult away points.

Let’s see if they can get a few more before the World Cup break.

Note: We’re trying something new with our match threads this year. We’ll be updating the post with updates of goals and big moments as they happen. Check back every so often during the match for highlights and commentary.
