Carlos Bocanegra told 92.9 The Game on Friday that Josef Martinez has a small fracture in his nose. All indications are is that it’s not too serious, but you wouldn’t be able to tell that from an image he shared on social media of the injury:

It looks as if he just went 12 rounds for the Heavyweight Championship. Thankfully there are masks and other things to help protect facial injuries like this. He’s no stranger to playing with supportive gear this season as he’s played with a broken finger for a good chunk of his games in 2018.
Hopefully this is just another battle scar to show off when he’s scoring goals. We won’t know for sure until next week if he’ll miss any time. Atlanta United have a U.S. Open Cup match on Wednesday that Josef probably wouldn’t have played in even if he was fit. The team returns to MLS action on Sunday, June 24 at home against the Portland Timbers.
