After arriving in Atlanta early Friday morning, Eric Remedi will begin training with the team on Monday in preparation for next weekend’s home match against DC United, according to Tata Martino.
The Argentinian midfielder signed from Primera Division’s Banfield after a reported $2 million transfer fee. He can play as a holding mid and slightly more central if needed. Look for Remedi to join a rotation that includes Julian Gressel, Jeff Larentowicz, and Darlington Nagbe once the latter returns from an adductor injury in 6-10 weeks.
“He’s a defensive minded player that’s also very physical,” said Tata Martino. “When I say physical, I don’t mean his stature. It’s about how much he runs and the way he plays. I think he’s going to help us by receiving the first pass and being an outlet for us in the back. He’ll help us in an area of the field where we had the unexpected loss of Carlos Carmona before the season. With the loss of Nagbe due to injury, now it’s an area where we need even more protection in.”
