Line-up shockers

Today’s match just received some added drama as both teams make surprising inclusions in their starting lineups. Andrew Carleton has been given his first-ever MLS start by Tata Martino with Ezequiel Barco mysteriously missing from the matchday squad.

Meanwhile, Ben Olsen is wasting little time in incorporating Wayne Rooney. The former Manchester United star has also been given his full MLS debut today after making his first appearance last weekend.

Pre-game

Atlanta United are back at it today in Mercecedes-Benz Stadium. D.C. United bring their revamped attack to try and get a result. Wayne Rooney is here in MLS. It’s not a dream, you’re really awake. The English star made his D.C. debut last weekend and notched an assist in a rousing 4-1 win for the MLS originals. With Yamil Asad adding Goal of the Week and Paul Arriola bagging a brace, D.C. come into this match-up with a new grasp on their season.

Meanwhile, Atlanta’s midseason lull continues. Tata Martino’s side has still not won consecutive matches in nearly two months. Another disappointing result at home has the Eastern conference race as tight as possible. If the Five Stripes want to keep their name atop the standings, a win will likely be needed in this one.

This match could see the debut of the club’s newest signing. Eric Remedi has been training with the club all week and by all accounts has fit right in. It seems unlikely that the midfielder will be thrown right into the starting lineup to start off, but a cameo of the bench to start his Atlanta career seems like the logical move, assuming the situation allows for it.

Let’s see if Atlanta United can get back in the win column or if D.C.’s resurgence is for real...
