After a good long wait—nearly a year after Mercedes-Benz Stadium opened its doors to Atlanta United supporters—the facility’s state-of-the-art retractable roof is finally fully operational. Check out the video below to see it in action.

The greatest roof in sports is now finished!#MBStadium pic.twitter.com/rfvd1LoZBo
The roof was most recently open for a game in June against the Philadelphia Union, but fans and players alike said the open roof created uncomfortable conditions for fans and even tougher playing conditions. It’s unlikely that the roof will ever be open again on a summer night like that, but due to ongoing maintenance and repair work at the time, the roof was incapable of closing for the game.
The only other Atlanta United game the MBS roof has been open for was last year’s regular-season finale against Toronto FC in October. During a much cooler time of year, the conditions were much more suitable and hopefully we get some more of those types of opportunities to let the sun/stars shine through later in the season.
