Atlanta United 2 announced the signing of midfielder Alessandro Castro from the club’s U-19 academy team Thursday morning, pending league and federation approval.
Castro has been a member of the academy since the program launched in 2016 and was a regular starter for the U-16 team during their national championship run last season. In total, he made 54 appearances for Atlanta’s academy and is also a regular for Honduras’ youth national teams, playing for them at the 2017 U-17 World Cup.
“We’re excited to welcome a player we know well to ATL UTD 2,” said head coach Scott Donnelly. “Ale is another product of our excellent academy and has shown himself to be a technical and versatile midfielder. He has a strong sense for the game and is ready for this step. We look forward to having him with us full-time, as this is an important step for his development.”
Castro has already made two appearances for the reserve team this season.
