Zizzo, 31, was signed by the Five Stripes as a free agent at the beginning of preseason to add to the team’s depth at the fullback position. He has appeared in six MLS matches for Tata Martino’s side this season.
Losing him adds an interesting dilemma to the squad, especially at the right back position. Zizzo’s role on the team was as a versatile defender would could play on both sides of the field. With him out, there isn’t a natural back-up for Franco Escobar. Someone like Miles Robinson or Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu could fill in if needed, but that isn’t their natural position.
The team has a few weeks to find a replacement if they choose to go that route. The MLS summer transfer window closes on August 8.
