Lagos Kunga puts on a show in ATL UTD 2’s win over TFC II

The Homegrown Player had a night to remember.

ATLANTA UNITED

ATL UTD 2 picked up the fourth win of their inaugural season on Friday night against last place TFC II. Atlanta United Homegrown Player Lagos Kunga had a coming out party of sorts, scoring two goals to secure the 2-1 victory for his side.

His two goals doubled his season total coming into the match, raising his overall output to three. His brace was no ordinary one, either. Both goals were works of individual brilliance. The first goal came on the counter-attack. He maneuvered through several defenders, faking and feinting until wriggling free and finding the net with a low shot past the goalkeeper. Take a look:

In the second half, he added a second and even more impressive effort. Again on the break, he raced down the right flank and cut onto his preferred left foot. After again fooling a defender with a body feint, he ripped an unstoppable shot into the corner for a lovely goal.

It’s been a long season for the ATL UTD 2 youngsters in their first season both they and the club learn the ropes in the USL. A performance like this has been needed for quite some time. Hopefully this is the type of showing that can infuse some confidence back into both Kunga and the team as the season winds down. Perhaps, if he has a few more efforts like these, we could see him with the first team sooner rather than later.
