After an international break of sorts, Atlanta United return to the grind of a Supporters’ Shield race. With seven matches remaining it appears to be a two-team race between the Five Stripes and the New York Red Bulls.

It’s true that Atlanta have a game in hand, but that means nothing if they don’t get points out of those games. This week should be a huge turning point in the season with Tata Martino’s side playing in three matches in seven days. It kicks off with a trip to face the Colorado Rapids.

The Rapids are statistically one of the worst teams in the league, sitting next to bottom of the Western conference with just 24 points through 27 matches. Despite their poor record they are not to be taken lightly. They’ve looked a better side since acquiring U.S. international Kellyn Acosta from FC Dallas in July. These are the types of games you must win if you want to be the best in the league.

Darlington Nagbe and Franco Escobar have both returned to training and appear to be available for selection on the road trip. This will give Martino plenty of different options when it comes to the lineup. It will be interesting to see how the preferred starting eleven pans out once the main players are all fit.
