After a comfortable 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake, Tata Martino said he was very happy with the performance of his team, playing it’s third game in only eight days. He told reporters the day prior that his reaction to the dramatic win against San Jose was muted by the fact that his team didn’t perform to his standards. That wasn’t the case Saturday, as the Five Stripes put in a complete performance against a Western Conference playoff team. George Bello finally forced his way into the team, making his full debut with Atlanta United and his first appearance in front of the home fans—all 72k+ of them—at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Man of the Match: Julian Gressel
Julian Gressel submitted one of his finest performances of the season, which is saying something for the German international that has started every single MLS match this season for Tata Martino’s side. His volleyed finish to give Atlanta a lead heading into halftime was a huge lift for the team on top of being a sensational strike.
