Atlanta United squandered a great chance to strengthen their grip on the Supporters Shield as they fell, 3-1, to D.C. United. This is the fourth time in six tries that the Five Stripes have lost to their fellow United. Ben Olsen’s conservative yet calculated tactics once again frustrated the dominant and suffocating style of Tata Martino.
Man of the Match: Jeff Larentowicz
Jeff “Larry ‘Big Red’” Larentowicz notched the second goal of his Atlanta United tenure late in the first half to give his side hope going into halftime. You’d be very generous in calling any individual’s performance “good” on the night, but the ever-steady Larentowicz deservedly gets the nod for this match, even if it may be in vain.
