Fresh off his MLS debut on Sunday, George Bello’s name has begun popping up in the rumor mill.
According to Calcio Mercato in Italy, as many as six top clubs in Europe are keeping tabs on the 16-year-old Atlanta United Homegrown Player. Those clubs include world powers like Manchester City, Chelsea, and Roma. Genoa, Everton, and Schalke are also linked with interest in Bello.
It’s important to remember that any player under the age of 18 that doesn’t possess a European passport isn’t legally able to transfer to Europe. There’s still about 17 months until Bello turns 18, giving Atlanta United time to continue his development and possibly raise his transfer value for a future move.
Obviously that line of thinking should be put on the back burner as the main focus now is for the talented U.S. youth international to earn first team minutes for Atlanta. Still, it’s very interesting seeing him linked to such high profile clubs. It’s clear that his talent is making an impression. After a bright cameo in his debut, Bello will be looking to get more chances down the stretch of the season as Atlanta United push for the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup.
