The Miguel Almiron transfer saga has gone from the tedious to the ridiculous and now to the downright bizarre.

According to The Telegragh in England, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is threatening to leave the club this summer if he isn’t supported with the signings he desires in this winter transfer market.

It’s been no secret that Almiron is at the top of Benitez’s wishlist since the start of the window. The report states that the Spaniard is demanding the club sign his top two targets before the transfer deadline.

Atlanta and Newcastle have been embroiled in negotiations for the Paraguayan all month, with reports suggesting the Tyneside club being willing to only offer around $20 million and Atlanta looking for nothing short of $30m.

The Magpies jumped out of the bottom three of the Premier League table with a win at the weekend but sit just two points above the relegation zone. It’s clear that Benitez is desperate for additions to his squad in order to ensure the club doesn’t drop a division again.

With just over a week to go until the window shuts, it’s time to see who gives in under the pressure.
