One of the best things about transfer deadlines is watching Sky Sports News as the clock ticks down. The frantic reporting on potential deals is almost as iconic as their car window interviews.

Perhaps Atlanta United is about to get in on the action this winter. Today, a segment aired on Sky with reporter Keith Downie in Newcastle giving an update on the possible transfer of Miguel Almiron.

Here’s the clip in full:

The main talking points of the report suggest that Rafa Benitez’s supposed ultimatum to the Newcastle board is having the desired effect on their pursuit of Almiron. Downie says that the feeling around the club is that a deal is more likely now than it seemed a week ago.

The Northern Echo reported earlier in the day that the club have an outline in place with Almiron and his representatives on personal terms but that the transfer fee is still the sticking point. Newcastle have reportedly offered around $20 million with Atlanta looking for $25-30 million.

This saga appears as if it will come down to Thursday’s transfer deadline. Hold on to your seats.
