“Always my captain.”
U still our captain and always my captain
— Josef Martinez (@JosefMartinez17) September 23, 2019
That’s what Josef Martinez had to say on Twitter the day Atlanta United captain Michael Parkhurst announced that this season would be his last as a professional soccer player. After returning from injury for the season finale and finding the back of the net, Josef showed his love and respect in the only way he can. After finishing off a lovely Julian Gressel pass, the teams heart and soul delayed his celebration to run all the way over to the bench to do his patented bowing celebration right in front of his captain.
Josef Martinez wears the crown, but as @JillianSakovits reports, the @ATLUTD star bent the knee to Michael Parkhurst in his final regular-season game.#UniteAndConquer pic.twitter.com/c4ZR31Q7XL

This just goes to show you that Josef is more than words, but about action. He could’ve easily put the spotlight on himself after scoring a great goal, but he took the chance to acknowledge and pay respects to a good friend and teammate. Yet another reason why’s the best.
