After spending half the season on loan from AFC Bournemouth, Atlanta United have signed midfielder Emerson Hyndman on a permanent transfer that will keep him in Atlanta until the end of 2022.

Atlanta had originally acquired Hyndman’s rights from F.C. Dallas in July for $200,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM). Hyndman had spent some time in the English Premier League with Bournemouth and Scottish Premier League side Hibernian before being loaned to MLS with Atlanta. The was no information given on the transfer fee.

Atlanta’s Vice President and Technical Director, Carlos Bocanegra addressed the move via a press release:

“We’re excited to bring back Emerson on a permanent deal, he played an important role in our midfield after joining the team mid-season and will add competition and depth to our group as we prepare to play in various competitions in 2020.”

The 23-year-old scored two goals and had four assists in over 1,000 minutes across all competitions with the club last year. As Bocanegra addressed in his comment, Hyndman is expected to be one of the key pieces for how manager Frank de Boer will work the midfield in 2020 with Darlington Nagbe being moved earlier in the off-season to the Columbus Crew.
