Josef Martinez opened his 2019 goal account on Thursday against Herediano in the Concacaf Champions League. The MLS goal king’s first strike of the season wasn’t much to write home about — a simple finish off a deflection, but his celebration is what everyone took notice of.
During the first two years of Atlanta United’s existence, Josef formed a bond on and off the field with Miguel Almiron. The two formed one of the deadliest duos MLS has ever seen and even came up with their own celebration that mimicked characters in Dragonball Z powering up.

With his first goal, Josef paid tribute to his departed friend, who has gone to Newcastle United, by doing his half of the celebration alone.
Miguel will have surely seen it in England. Perhaps he’ll return the favor once he gets off the mark in the Premier League? We’ll be watching.
