It’s the most magical time of the year in MLS: Roster Compliance Day.

Atlanta United celebrated the occasion by announcing the signing of midfielder and future cult hero Anderson Asiedu. The Five Stripes selected the holding mid with the 24th pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. He’ll officially join the roster “pending the receipt of his P-1 Visa,” a work Visa that allows international athletes to work in the United States.

Asiedu comes to Atlanta United by way of Dormaa Ahenkro, Ghana and is a truly remarkable story. A chance encounter with a high school coach from New Jersey led to Anderson leaving behind the orphanage he lived in for America. Asiedu spent two years at Monmouth then transferred to UCLA before transferring directly into the hearts of Atlanta United fans with the greatest SuperDraft interviews of all-time.

Asiedu earned All-Pac 12 honors twice and won the coveted (?) MLS Combine MVP award before being drafted by Atlanta.

“After a good college career, we targeted Anderson in the SuperDraft as a midfielder who could immediately compete at a high level,” said Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra. “He’s proven that during preseason and he’s earned a spot on our roster.”

There’s no timetable given on Anderson’s Visa so we’ll have to wait and see when he can actually join the roster. I imagine we won’t know until we show up one day and he’s suddenly at the training ground running around and being amazing and perfect. Until then, enjoy some amazing Asiedu content like the time he forgot how old he was and everyone lost their minds.

We at DSS look forward to Anderson becoming the most popular Atlanta United player of all-time.
