Atlanta United grabbed an early lead in its home opener against FC Cincinnati through Josef Martinez’s fifth minute goal, but the team looked ponderous and without many ideas during the 85 minutes that followed, allowing Cincinnati to equalize late on to muster a draw in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Man of the Match: Miles Robinson
Usually when we do these player ratings, the goalscorer gets the best rating. In the rare cases it’s not the goalscorer, it’s probably the guy who provided the assist as Julian Gressel did Sunday. But very rarely(/ever?) does a center back take the award in a game where Atlanta scored at least one goal. But Miles Robinson fully deserves it. The young CB is emerging as a top player before our very eyes, and one could make the case that he should’ve been Atlanta’s highest rated player in three or four games this season. So well done, Miles.
