United States Under-20 Men’s National Team head coach Tab Ramos has named a 20-player roster for the final pre-World Cup training camp to be held in Spain during the upcoming international break. Atlanta United’s Andrew Carleton has been named to that squad.

The 18-year-old’s call-up could be looked at as a good sign. Last year it seemed as he’d fallen off the U-20’s radar due to a lack of playing time and some off the field issues that he was disciplined for.

So far in 2019 it’s been hard to judge Carleton’s progress. It seemed as if he had a promising preseason, but so far that has not translated into him getting opportunities. He’s seen one brief substitute appearance off the bench in the first six games of the season.

This call-up signifies he’s at least still in contention for Ramos’ final roster for the World Cup that takes place this May. It seemed as if the Powder Springs native would be a lock for it until his rough patch last season led him to be left off the Concacaf U-20 Championship roster.

The U-20’s will play two friendlies during their time in Spain. The first will be against France on Friday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m. ET. The second coming against Japan on Monday, March 25 at 7:00 a.m. ET.
