MLS: Champions League-Monterrey at Atlanta United FC Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

After getting knocked out of the Concacaf Champions League at midweek, Atlanta United return to league play today against the Philadelphia Union. The Five Stripes are still looking for their first win of the season after falling to D.C. United in the season opener and being held to a draw by FC Cincinnati last weekend.

One major thing to keep an eye out for in this one is how Frank de Boer approaches the match tactically. Against Monterrey in leg 2, we saw a subtle but effect shift in formation that saw Ezequiel Barco drop deeper and go more central, acting as more of an attacking midfielder than winger. The change helped the midfield gain more control over the game and the team just looked a lot more dangerous in the attacking end. Will we see something similar against the Union?

Philadelphia enter today’s match-up having lost their first two games of the season. They’ll also be without their star winter signing, Marco Fabian, who was sent off last weekend for a stomping incident against Sporting Kansas City.

Franco Escobar is still listed as out on the official MLS injury report. The defender has returned to training, however. No one else appears on the report.

Can Atlanta get in the win column in MLS and kickstart their season in the right direction? Or will their shaky start continue for another week? VAMOS ATL!
