Julian Gressel talks Atlanta United teammates with Dirty South Soccer

Gressel answered our questions in an exclusive sit-down to promote his new Gresselmania blog.

Julian Gressel is an MLS Cup winner, MLS Rookie of the Year award winner and the fastest MLS SuperDraft pick ever to bag 25 assists in his career stateside.

But what makes the German midfielder so popular in Atlanta isn’t purely down to his performances — it’s down to his connection to the fans. It was Gressel, after all, who presented last year’s championship trophy to the ardent fans packing out of the supporters section in Mercedes-Benz Stadium last December after the Five Stripes lifted MLS Cup.

In that vein, Gressel wants to strengthen the bond even further, and it starts with the launch of his new personal blog, Gressel says that the site serves as an outlet for him to speak truthfully and unfiltered to the fans that chant his name from week to week, and in return, it gives those fans better insight into his life and career. He’s already posted twice: here about the pain of missing a Concacaf Champions League match with an injury and here about the team’s mindset at the international break.

To celebrate the launch of the site, we sat down with Julian to pick his brain just a bit more with the questions we’ve always wanted to know... Who is the team’s fanciest dresser? Who would bomb a stand-up comedy set? Who is most “dad?” Check out the video for all the answers.
