Recap: Atlanta United Successfully Completes Yearly Tradition of Losing to D.C. United in 2-0 Loss

We did it.

MLS: Atlanta United FC at D.C. United Patrick McDermott-USA TODAY Sports

In a game that definitely happened, Atlanta United fell 2-0 to D.C. United as a toothless attack and goals from Paul Arriola and Lucho Acosta doomed the Five Stripes in their first match of the 2019 MLS Season.

The things that happened in the game that was played

Atlanta United failed to put a shot on target in the first half while D.C. United peppered Brad Guzan. After dominating much of the half, D.C. finally found the back of the net off a cluster of a corner.

The game continued to flow in the same way in the second half. Eventually, D.C. and Lucho Acosta, who owns the entire city of Atlanta, put the Five Stripes into an even deeper hole.

Lucho Acosta has scored or assisted on goals against Atlanta approximately 475 times. Atlanta United failed to make anything happen the rest of the way and for the fourth time in as many tries left D.C. without a point. Cool.

A Recap Thought: Let’s never talk about this again.
