UPDATED: Franco Escobar okay after injury scare

Phew.

MLS: MLS Cup-Portland Timbers vs Atlanta United FC Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

UPDATE (4/11): According to Frank de Boer, Franco Escobar is fine after picking up a slight injury against the Crew. He is available for selection against the Revs on Saturday.

Franco Escobar’s unfortunate 2019 season appears to have continued on Saturday night. The defender returned to action for the first time all season against Columbus after suffering a fractured clavicle on the first day of training in preseason. However, Escobar was subbed out due to injury, according to the AJC’s Doug Roberson.

The Argentine is said to have strained his adductor muscle in the miserable playing conditions at MAPFRE Stadium.

No official update has been given from the team. We’ll have to wait and see just how bad his injury is and if he could miss more time.

Atlanta United players weren’t happy about playing in a torrential downpour. Brad Guzan went as far as saying it was a “disgrace” to be playing under those circumstances.

Escobar’s return seemed to spark Frank de Boer to alter his formation to a 4-3-3. If he has to miss more time, it could mean even more lineup and formation adjustments are coming.

When it rains, it pours for Atlanta United.
