Well, this has been a much less stressful week. Winning is always nice. Now let’s try to do it again. FC Dallas comes to town as Atlanta United look to ride their great performance last weekend to their first winning streak of the season. The team’s three wins this season in all competitions have been sandwiched between disappointing results. A good run of form would go a long way in reinstating some confidence for both the players and fans.
Eric Remedi will be a big absentee in this one after suffering a concussion. The team relies heavily on the big Argentine in the middle of the field. Since his arrival last summer and him breaking into the lineup, he’s started every match until now. How Frank de Boer goes about replacing him will be very interesting. Jeff Larentowicz is an obvious candidate. He started in the win in New England and played that role when Remedi left early.
George Bello is still out with a nagging groin injury and Kevin Kratz remains unavailable. Pity Martinez is still not at 100 percent according to De Boer. While he looked sharp in his short cameo last weekend, he still might need more time as a substitute.
Dallas are off to a pretty good start. They have four wins, two losses and one draw to open the season. Their 19-year-old American midfielder Paxton Pomykal has been drawing rave reviews of late. He’s one to keep an eye on in the midfield battle.
One good performance might could be considered a fluke. Two in a row would give us more concrete proof that the De Boer Era is heading in the right direction. This match is a national TV game, airing on ESPN. Jon Champion and Taylor Twellman will be on the call.
