Atlanta United reached the June international break in the best possible way with a 2-0 win over the Chicago Fire in a raucous atmosphere at Mercedes-Benz Stadium Saturday. Two shutout victories for the Five Stripes sees them in the thick of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, with only the Philadelphia Union sporting a better points per game figure.
Man of the Match: Josef Martinez
With two braces in a week, Josef Martinez’s confidence and goal-scoring touch appears to have reignited along with the team’s results. The Venezuelan’s pair of goals Saturday were superbly finished. Instead of attempting to round the keeper, Martinez utitilzed his precise finishing skill to find the corners of the goal and give the 67k+ in attendance a reason to celebrate.
