Pity Martinez scored, Josef Martinez scored, Emerson Hyndman picked up an assist in his Atlanta United debut and the Five Stripes moved on to the semifinal round of the U.S. Open Cup with a 2-0 win over St. Louis in Kennesaw.
The things that happened in the game that was played
Well in the first half, some Open Cup happened.
Finally. Mercifully. Pity broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute.

Atlanta had a few scattered chances but couldn’t convert until a late penalty from Josef in the very last minute of the match.
A Recap Thought: Beat Orlando
Atlanta will play Orlando in the semifinal. My level of apathy for this whole competition is pretty well documented by this point through constant complaining on the DSS Twitter. HOWEVER, put Orlando in it and give us a chance to keep them from winning something shiny and I’m in. They don’t deserve nice things. And I can see them using the “AT LEAST WE BEAT THEM WHEN IT MATTERS” dunk that we use on Red Bulls except with...ya know...the US Open Cup. I absolutely do not think I can handle it. Please win. Please please win.
Lol they let in a goal in like the last second. They’re in extra time with NYCFC now. We’ll update this later. Or not. Look, just beat whatever team is next, trophies are fun, thanks.
BEAT ORLANDO
DSS Man of the Match
Pity. Goal man gets paid.
Larentowicz Man of the Match (Your unsung hero(es))
Justin Meram.
Dude has just been good over the last few games. It’s so refreshing to see someone...try and score? That’s the simple version but he’s been fun and good. Justin, your check is in the mail.
(Emerson, Shea and others also solid tonight. Only one award though.)
