Atlanta United center back Florentin Pogba could be on the move to Spain to join up with his brothers Paul Pogba and Matthias Pogba in Madrid, according to a report from AS.
The report states that Florentin Pogba is eligible to leave Atlanta United on a free transfer if he finds a move to a team in the top two divisions in Spain. Florentin Pogba’s agent, Erik Depolo, is reportedly offering the player to CF Fuenlabrada, who was recently promoted to Segunda División at the end of last season.
Depolo says in the report:
“Flo wants to be near his brothers in Spain and we have a week to find a club. He is an experienced centre-back and also a free agent”.
The veracity of the report is unclear. While the author of the report, Manu Sainz, has more than 91,000 followers and AS is one of the biggest outlets in Spain, the story also gets at least one obvious fact wrong by saying Pogba is a free agent. He’s clearly not, but it’s possible that he could have a free release clause in his contract — though even that seems fishy. It seems more likely that this move would happen after the MLS season concludes, when Paul Pogba’s destination is established and it’s more likely that Pogba could be out of contract.
Either way, we’ll know how this one turns out in a matter of days. Atlanta United manager Frank de Boer has praised the Guinean international numerous times this season for both his performances and his attitude. De Boer said Friday morning that Pogba is slated to start in place of the suspended Leandro Gonzalez Pirez vs. LA Galaxy on Saturday.
