As well all wait very impatiently for an official diagnosis on the injury that caused Josef Martinez to be stretched off the field late in the match Saturday, there is some good news to report.
Firstly, ESPN’s Taylor Twellman has offered a glimmer of hope Josef’s worrisome injury. He speculated during Sunday’s Minnesota vs. Portland match that he’s heard that Atlanta United are growing optimistic that the injury will only require “weeks” of recovery instead of the long term layoff many have feared.
#UniteAndConquer more confident after 24hrs that the Josef Martinez injury may not be as bad as initially feared. Waiting for pain to subside to then fully assess. #MLS https://t.co/plAnzS9eb6

This is all we know right now. We can only wait until the tests are done and the team releases official word on just how long Josef will be out of action.
Next, the reigning MVP is up for two familiar awards. He’s been nominated for MLS Player of the Week, something he’s probably won a million times at this rate. But that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t win 1,000,001 times. Simply go to the below tweet and click on Josef’s name to vote:

Lastly, Josef’s spectacular goal against FC Cincinnati is up for the league’s best of the week. You know the one. No. Not that one. The other one. The second one. This one:

Josef Martinez is ridiculous. @ATLUTD pic.twitter.com/Fhja8OTozi
The Venezuelan has scored a ton of beautiful goals during his time with Atlanta, but this one ranks right near the top for my money. Make sure you go to the MLS site and cast your vote. Do it here.
