Atlanta, THANK YOU! It’s been an incredible 3 years and I am so thankful for everything I was able to experience during my time here. From being drafted to the first game and all the way to winning MLS Cup, the US Open Cup and the Campeones Cup, it has been absolutely spectacular! There will always be a part of Atlanta in me and that is thanks to the great people I have gotten to meet over the past years. I am so thankful for the impact this city has had on me and it will always hold a special place in my heart! To all the staff & teammates I had over the years: Thank you for making this journey so memorable! Dr. Seuss said, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened!” This isn’t goodbye, it’s see you later! To DC United fans, I’m excited to be part of such a historic club and can’t wait to get to work!
Julian Gressel had an incredible impact on this team from the second he joined the squad. In his three years, he scored 17 goals and assisted in 34 for the Five Stripes. He was a fixture for Atlanta United on the right side, and his production will be incredibly difficult for the front office to replace.
“We want to thank Julian for his service to our club over the past three seasons,” Carlos Bocanegra told the media. “Coming out of college, Julian played an important role in building our team and helping the club win three major trophies. We wish him luck in his future.”
He was beloved by fans and he, in return, loved them. As much as Gressel the player will be tough to replace, it may be even tougher to replace the passion and effort he gave the city and its fans.
Best of luck to Julian in the next stage of his career.
