Predicting Atlanta United’s Starting XI vs. Orlando City

Can Atlanta keep the momentum up and get an important win vs. rivals Orlando City?

Atlanta United were dominant and decisive against bottom-of-the-table D.C. United Saturday night in a 4-0 win. Although DC United is a weaker side with many problems within their club, Atlanta still played very well in a much-needed win to keep playoff hope alive.

Atlanta United’s starting XI vs. DC United:

Atlanta kept their playoff hopes alive with a dominating performance, can they use that momentum in a big game vs. Orlando?

My predicted starting XI:

Defense:

Fernando Meza did not play vs. D.C. Saturday night, but Anton Walkes stepped up and was phenomenal next to Miles Robinson. I have Meza starting because the game tonight is important to continue to try and make the playoffs and make a statement to the rest of the league. A player like Meza could be key because of the experience he brings to the backline, and that’s a great bonus Atlanta United can use. He was brought in to be a fixture in the starting XI, and while injuries have hampered his ability to do that, tonight’s match is a chance for him to make an impression on Stephen Glass.

Midfield:

If Atlanta United is to have success, they must get a solid collective performance from its midfield. Emerson Hyndman has proven that he plays better behind the three forwards with two defensive midfielders protecting them. These rival matches always are played with high energy and high intensity, which is why I have Eric Remedi starting because his energy and play style on the pitch can benefit Atlanta in a game like this.

Attack:

This is Atlanta’s best-attacking trio available to play at the moment. Jon Gallagher and Brooks Lennon dismantled D.C.’s back line and both are on good form along with Adam Jahn. Considering how much game time he’s missed, Ezequiel Barco still doesn’t appear fit to play from the start. Regardless, Atlanta United has good options that can come off the bench like Jurgen Damm, Manuel Castro, and Jake Mulraney. Perhaps Barco may be part of that bench contingent as well.
