Atlanta United are set to make a trade to open up what should be a very busy offseason when the half-day trade window opens around the league on Sunday.
ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle is reporting that the club’s leading goal scorer from this season, Jon Gallagher, will be dealt to incoming expansion side Austin FC when the window opens. In exchange for the versatile attacker, Atlanta will receive as much as $225k in General Allocation Money.
Multiple sources tell ESPN that #AustinFC has acquired M/F Jon Gallagher from #ATLUTD for as much as $225k in GAM (unclear at the moment how much up front). Deal will go through when 1/2 day trade window opens tomorrow.

Gallagher, 24, was somewhat of a revelation for the Five Stripes during a rotten campaign. After being sent out on loan to Aberdeen in 2019, the Irishman returned to Atlanta and worked his way into becoming a regular in Stephen Glass’ lineup. In addition to his team-high four goals this season, he added some valuable versatility with his ability to play all over the field.
With the poor results of 2020 and a brand new manager and system coming in, you can expect it to be a very hectic offseason as far as comings and goings are concern. We thank Jon for his great work this season and wish him the best with his new club.
