Atlanta United announced the return of familiar face on Tuesday as the club welcomed back defender Mikey Ambrose as a free agent signing.

Ambrose, 27, was a part of the club’s roster for its first three seasons of existence, including being a member of the team’s MLS Cup-winning roster in 2018. The predominately left-sided defender left the club in 2019 to join expansion side Inter Miami.

“Mikey is an MLS veteran who has proven to be a reliable and versatile defender, and we’re pleased to welcome him back to our club,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “We know we’ll be able to count on his experience and leadership to give us additional competition in our back line.”

While Ambrose has never been known for being a featured player on any team, he’s always been a reliable depth piece. He’ll surely act as such for Gabriel Heinze’s side in 2021 as he’ll be covering for George Bello who undoubtedly locked up the starting left back spot last season and looks to be the club’s next big project to sell on to Europe in the next few years.

As Tata Martino once famously referred to him, welcome back to our favorite boy scout.
