Update 12/28: It looks like a false alarm on reports linking Jurguens Montenegro to Atlanta United. He was instead traveling to Atlanta to sign a contract with his agency.

Several reports from reputable outlets in Costa Rica are reporting that Atlanta United are nearing a loan deal for Alajuelense forward Jurguens Montenegro. Teletica Deportes even states that the 20-year-old left for the United States this morning to take his medical tests to complete the deal with the Five Stripes.
Montenegro has represented Costa Rica at the U-20 and U-23 youth international levels and was called up to train with the senior national team in August. He has bounced around to a few different clubs in his home country during his time at Alajuelense, most recently spending a loan spell at A.D.R. Jicaral.
At this point, it’s unclear if this move is intended to shore up Atlanta’s first-team depth chart or is for ATL UTD 2. Montenegro doesn’t have a ton of professional experience, but is highly rated as a prospect for the future of the Costa Rican national team.
Stay tuned to see how this plays out over the next days and weeks.
