Atlanta United is set to acquire Tigres winger Jurgen Damm on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer, according to the latest report from TUDN. TUDN reported last week that Damm would sign with a team in MLS.

Atlanta United would be a realistic suitor as the club sold speedy winger Tito Villalba to Club Libertad in Paraguay in January. According to Transfermrkt, Villalba and Damm share the same agency.

Atlanta United recently acquired another winger, Manuel Castro, on a six-month loan with an option to buy from Estudiantes de La Plata.

While Damm makes sense logistically, there’s a major question as to how effective the 27-year-old winger would be in MLS. Once a bright prospect for El Tri and labeled as one of the fastest players in the world, Damm has scored just one goal in his last 67 appearances for Tigres since the start of the 2017 Apertura in Liga MX. Damm has scored once for the Mexican senior national team in his 12 career appearances — contributing too a 2-0 win over Honduras in World Cup Qualifying in November 2015.
