Atlanta United to play Club América in 2020 Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals

The 2nd-round matchup is set.

Atlanta United now know its opponent in the quarterfinal round of the 2020 Concacaf Champions League.

Atlanta will be matched up with Club América, who played to a tense 1-1 draw against 10-man Comunicaciones in the 2 teams’ 2nd leg matchup through a pair of 2nd-half penalties for either side. The Round of 16 tie ended with a 2-2 aggregate scoreline with América advancing 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

It’s an opponent the Five Stripes know all too well as they matched up with Las Aguilas in last year’s Campeones Cup. Atlanta United ended up winning that one 3-2, 1 of 2 trophies it would win in the season.

Leg 1 is set to be played at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City between March 10-12. Leg 2 is slated for the following week, but will be played at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw as Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be unavailable due to Final Four preparations.
