It’s been understandably quiet on the Atlanta United front since MLS shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, some good news has finally come to light regarding Josef Martinez. The club’s star striker posted an update on Instagram on Wednesday announcing that his surgery to repair a torn ACL, sustained in the MLS-opening win against Nashville, was successful.

Josef also added a heartfelt message to everyone who is dealing with these hard times during the outbreak.

In the midst of the humanitarian crisis we are all living through, in which more than ever we need to think about and take care of each other, just wanted to share that I’m blessed that my knee surgery today went well. I want to personally thank UPMC in Pittsburgh, doctors Freddie Fu and Volker Musahl (pictured), @atlutd , my teammates and most of all the city of Atlanta for the unconditional support. Also, everyone in Venezuela and around the world for the good wishes and support. God bless and protect us all in these challenging times ❤️

With so much going on currently, it’s nice to have a bit of good news from our regular lives remind us of what’s waiting on the other side of this rough period.

Hopefully all that’s left for Josef is to begin his recovery and rehab to start working his way towards playing again. It seemed like a lost cause for him to play this season, however, depending on how MLS handles their rescheduling, perhaps that dream isn’t impossible.
