Atlanta United has signed former Atlanta United 2 defender Laurence Wyke to a permanent deal with the first team.

The deal comes off the back of a successful 45-minutes of MLS play as Wyke was forced to help Atlanta close out a 2-1 win over Nashville SC on Saturday. Wyke had reportedly signed a special Short-Term Agreement that allowed him to participate despite not having a permanent contract with the first team. He came on as a substitute at right center back for an injured Franco Escobar and made one interception, two clearances and two ball recoveries.

The Bolton, England native signed with ATL UTD 2 on Feb. 20, 2019 after playing two seasons at Furman University. In his first professional season, Wyke made 29 starts over 26 appearances in USL Championship play. He scored three goals, recorded one assist and led the team in tackles (67) and duels (305).
