After weeks of handwringing and dour news as MLS owners and the MLS Players Association wrestled over a return-to-play agreement, soccer fans got good news Wednesday: MLS is Back.
No, like that’s actually the name of it. MLS is Back. MLS is Back the tournament that brings MLS back, potentially confusing us like we are at Bonaroo referring to Which Stage, What Stage, etc.
Regardless, it sounds like it could be fun, and it’ll be the first time we see Atlanta United compete in a group stage of a tournament (CONCACAF Champions League removed MLS teams from the group stage of its tournament prior to Atlanta’s debut appearance).
Over a six week span beginning July 8, MLS fans will be witness to what feels more like a summer World Cup experience than an MLS season, with three time slots — one in the morning and two in primetime — every day through the group stage.
