This afternoon MLS announced the dates for all group stage matches in the forthcoming MLS is Back tournament. Atlanta United’s three matches will be as follows:

  • July 11: vs. New York Red Bulls at 8pm ET (Fox, Univision)
  • July 16: vs. FC Cincinnati at 9am ET (ESPN)
  • July 21: vs. Columbus Crew FC at 8pm ET (Univision)

That’s a Saturday, Thursday, Tuesday schedule. Not too bad as far as rest time is concerned. As regards the Cincy game, that takes me back to the days I spent watching my kids play in youth tournaments, although the difference is that back then alcohol was not involved, nor was pretending to be at work.

Knockout round matches begin on July 25, and carry on through August 11.

It’s also worth noting that The Athletic scooped MLS itself by about 90 minutes with the schedule release, continuing to demonstrate that outlet’s value in the US soccer world.
