On Tuesday, Atlanta United midfielder Emerson Hyndman revealed himself as one of the two players to test positive prior to the team leaving for Orlando. The Five Stripes received two positive tests while training at the team’s facilities in June, one of which turns out was Hyndman.
He says he tested positive despite showing any symptoms and doesn’t know how he may have contracted the virus.
“Pretty much the whole team has kept a simple life,” he said. “It could have been anything. Could have walked by someone and ended up getting it. The training ground is very protocol driven. I was confident that training ground was safe place.”
He was forced to miss two weeks of training while dealing with the positive test.
Thankfully, the Texas native has fully recovered and tested negative ever since. Hyndman started in the team’s opening group loss to the Red Bulls in the MLS is Back Tournament and played 56 minutes.
