... AND STILL

Atlanta United will remain the reigning U.S. Open Cup champions for another year as Sports Illustrated is reporting that the 2020 competition has been canceled by the United States Soccer Federation.

The news comes as little surprise in the wake of the ongoing worldwide coronavirus pandemic that has made every professional sport reassess their schedule. While soccer still seems to be on the agenda for the year with the MLS season resuming in just a week’s time, competitions like this have to be put on hold.

The U.S. Open Cup and Campeones Cup are two of the competitions that have been claimed by 2020 so far, both of which Atlanta are the current champions of. Meanwhile, Concacaf has announced plans to try and resume the Concacaf Champions League with details yet to be decided on.

We may be getting some normalcy back in our soccer lives, but we’re still very far away from the schedule we’re accustomed to.
