Fernando Meza to miss 2 to 3 weeks with knee injury

Atlanta’s first choice center back will could miss the remainder of the currently-scheduled regional matches

MLS: Nashville SC at Atlanta United FC Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta United will be without one of its first choice center backs as the club announced Tuesday that Fernando Meza will miss two to three weeks with a knee injury.

Meza suffered the injury late in the first half of the team’s 2-0 win against Nashville SC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium Saturday. Meza returned to the field of play after being treated for roughly a minute before the conclusion of the first half.

The injury news confirms that Atlanta will be without two members of its back four that started Saturday’s match after the MLS Disciplinary Committee levied a one-match suspension on Franco Escobar Monday. Meza was replaced at halftime by Miles Robinson, the other regular starter at center back, who was ill-fit to play 90 minutes of action.

The timetable on Meza’s injury means he is likely to miss the remainder of Atlanta United’s currently-scheduled fixtures over the next couple of weeks which take place against regional opponents Nashville, Orlando City SC and Inter Miami CF.
