The legendary Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain is reportedly interested in a potential opportunity to join Atlanta United if the situation were to present itself, according to a report published Tuesday afternoon in The Athletic.

The most important thing to note off the top when discussing this particular rumor is that the information about Higuain’s interest in Atlanta is sourced by someone close to the player, not the club. As it stands, Atlanta United does not have the capacity to add another designated player.
In addition, Atlanta is just one of a number of clubs that Higuain is reportedly offering consideration as the 32-year-old striker looks for where he will most likely finish out his club playing career. D.C. United, Inter Miami, and LAFC are also linked in the story, with D.C. seemingly being most proactive in pursuit.
The question for Atlanta United fans: Is Gonzalo Higuain a signing you’d like? The player’s profile (age and salary) would go against the grain for the way the club has operated in the transfer market in pursuit of Designated Players, instead opting for younger players that present potential sell-on value or long-term productivity. Again, we have no idea if Darren Eales, Carlos Bocanegra and the Atlanta United front office would even be interested in such a move. Would you?
