According to journalist César Luis Merlo, Atlanta United are “in negotiations” on a transfer deal for Lanús midfielder Marcelino Moreno.

According to Merlo, Moreno, 25, is being viewed as a replacement for Pity Martinez, who recently departed the club after being sold to Saudi club Al-Nassr. Merlo was in front of that deal before it took place, so it’s fair to say that this latest report has some legs.
Moreno, a native of San Martín, Argentina, joined Lanús from Talleres ahead of the 2016-17 season. In 106 matches for the club across all competitions, he has 6 goals and 13 assists, including a 3-goal, 6-assist performance in league play last season.
Atlanta United obviously have familiarity with Lanús in the past, and if this particular deal were to work out half as well as the last midfielder it signed from there, it will have done well for itself. For now, though, it appears that a new face will be making his arrival in Atlanta soon.
