Miles Robinson named finalist for MLS Defender of the Year

Major League Soccer on Monday released its list of finalists for its various end of season awards and unsurprisingly, Atlanta United and USMNT center back Miles Robinson is in contention for the Defender of the Year award. He is up against Yeimar Gómez of the Seattle Sounders and USMNT teammate Walker Zimmerman of Nashville SC, who is the reigning MLS Defender of the Year.

Robinson has made 25 starts in 26 appearances for Atlanta United in MLS play this season, and has one goal and one assist. Winning the award would surely boost Robinson’s profile even more after a breakout year with the USMNT, which could help attract the attention of clubs in Europe.

Robinson is the only Atlanta United representative among this season’s finalists, though Josef Martinez’s goal Decision Day goal against FC Cincinnati is in the running for the goal of the year.
