After another standout season with the Atlanta United 2s and the Academy’s U-19 team, Caleb Wiley is on his way to represent the United States of America at the U-20 level. The most impressive part of that high honor is that he is only 16 years old. Wiley will be the youngest player on this U-20 side and the only player yet to sign their first professional contract.
Fans have come to love his maturity and composure at such a young age. He already possessed superb defensive abilities at the left-back position and has developed an adept ability to curl a cross in from advanced positions at the left wing.
As we have seen with George Bello and Miles Robinson, a good national team camp can greatly enhance a young player’s abilities and confidence. With Bello nearing the end of his development with Atlanta United, Wiley may be the club’s next Homegrown signing as Bello’s current heir apparent by 2023.
Congratulations to Caley Wiley and to all of the players selected for the U-20 team’s upcoming matches. We could not be more proud of you.
If you’re curious about the rest of these players, be sure to check out Justin Moran’s breakdown of the roster at Stars And Stripes FC.
