Report: Atlanta United defender Fernando Meza offered to go on loan to San Lorenzo

Another move as Atlanta revamps the backline?

MLS: 2020 MLS Headshots USA TODAY Sports

After just one season with Atlanta United, center back Fernando Meza is could depart for Argentina. According to Argentine journalist Daniel Cambior, Meza has been offered to San Lorenzo on a one year loan.

Meza would depart after making 13 starts with Atlanta United in an injury hampered season. While 2020 was something of a lost year for the team, Meza was steady while not spectacular playing for the club. It seemed like his time with the club may have been coming to an end as he was reportedly drawing interest from Tijuana last fall.

The move would bring Meza back to his home country and the club where he developed as a professional. He spent seven seasons with the Gauchos de Boedo before moving to Chile and Mexico.

Along with the departure of Franco Escobar, Atlanta has been busy rebuilding a roster that it rebuilt last season. The move would clear another spot for a new addition with the franchise “re-launch” in full effect.
